Pre Migration Need-To-Know: Top Tips

As one of our account managers, Stefan could be the first person you speak to when you decide to migrate. We asked Stefan for his top tips on what information companies should know after making this decision in order for them to get the most out of that first call. So, over to you, Stefan…

1. Know Your Numbers
The first thing we need to know about you and your company is how many users you have and how much data you have. It might sound obvious, but you'd be surprised at how many people are used to giving estimated answers when it comes to company size, but we need to know exactly how many users were talking about and how your data is being used, including which users use large amounts of data. This information has the most impact on calculating how much time your migration will take.

2. Read Up On Our Migrations
We're not expecting you to be a migration expert (that's our job), but knowing what kind of migrations we offer will help you decide which service fits your needs. Having a read up on CloudMigrator Go, CloudMigrator and Managed Migrations will give you that first insight on which one's for you. We also recommend downloading our Free Trial to help with this decision, as this will give you an idea on the level of technical 'Know-How' needed to complete migrations.

3. Tell Us What You Want To Migrate
Every migration is different depending on your needs, so having a good grasp of your current platform, destination platform, and the items you want to migrate is going to be a big help. We migrate the following: emails, calendars, contacts, tasks, files, archives, groups and Google sites (for Google to Google migrations).

4. Let Us Know Who Your Critical Users Are
Critical users are users who hold the most important and often largest amount of data in your company. Though we pride ourselves on zero downtime to users, we wouldn't want to use critical users for tests in the off chance something went wrong. Knowing your critical users will also help us know who we need to pay special attention to when ensuring all data has been migrated successfully.

5. Do Your Prep Work
Before your initial call with one of our account managers, collect your information from the above points and write down any questions that you have so you don't forget to ask. It's important that you have a realistic timescale in mind, so let us know your desired completion date and we'll be able to work with you to assess whether or not it's achievable. If there are other stakeholders and decision makers in the migration project, it would be a good idea to meet with them first and have a list of their expectations to minimize any back and forth.
